Waiting to be Converted

Over the years I have found myself in a place of uncertainty. Wondering If there are so many reigions and beliefs in the world, How does someone work out which one is the true religion.

If God was the one and only true God and creator of all human kind, why do people believe have so many varied opinions of his word?

For example: christianity updated the bible from the Old Testament to the New Testament and then they edit out chapters which now seem inappropriate for our times, then they do the very things which in the bible it tells them not to do....Take the revivalist churches throughout southern states of America and also a few in Australia which sell all manner of religious tokens for rediculas prices in the name God...I do remember reading in this book 'do not worship false idles' or something along those lines yet the very people preaching to the believers about the good news are the very people selling them falsehoods, not to mention the money is the root of evil clause in there, how rich is the catholic church......and the vatican on its own....

but christians are not the only religion which to an outsider has a double standard of do as say not as I do attitude......all around the world we see it....in all the mainstream religions judaism, islam, hindu, budhism, new age, paganism, spirituality...... yes everywhere....

I have found contradiction after contradiction.....so I have decided to see start a blog and get you the people who believe in something to tell me why.....what makes your religion your beliefs the one right way....why with your belief will you go to a better place than your neighbour....and how why if I take on what you believe will I be saved....If there is one true religion outthere which does not contridict itself, have a double standard, treat one gender, race, age better than another I really want to know.....

So people of the internet here I am convert me know and get to that better place knowing you have saved a soul along the way

Gee I would be the first to answer huh? Thanks a lot dear freind....I shall remember this one..LOL!! For me I cannot tell you why I beleive in God....I just know that I have always been aware of his existence within my heart...as long as I remember back in my life he has been there. AS for being a Christian that too is what I feel in my heart. However, I too am very dis appointed in the divisions of belief and the false hoods that have grown along with all religions. I do not attend church because of this reason. I have chosen Christ as my saviour and my model to try to follow...I honestly beleive he was God incarnate on the face of this earth. I do beleive that he is the Messiah that the Hebrew faith promised. But, I am different in the fact that I don't think that everyone that doesn't believe as I do is going to hell or some terrible damnation for eternity. I simply don't have that answer. I respect all beliefs....but, I do beleive that if we are going to profess a faith...then we must be 100% open, clear, and true to that faith and also to others that we relate with. That's the best contribution I can offer right now off the top of my head. I am pleased to see this blog....you better watch out...little cynic...you are starting to question: God does work in mysterious ways:)Love and Blessings~Jackie

Hiya mate

Hmm, is this a pin your colours on the wall site?

I like your 'come and convert me' tag, brings to mind a picture of you standing blindfolded against a wall facing a firing squad!

'Go on shot me! One of these damn bullets has got to kill me!'

Well good luck mate.

I agree with some of what you said about Christianity. The church, like any institution which is made up of people, isn't perfect. In fact at times it has been an absolute disgrace. You only have to think of the crusades etc to see how much damage and misery those in a place of authority can wield.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

The guestion is why God would use such an imperfect vehicle as the church to display his love?

I guess the answer is routed in the same answer as to why he would want to be associated with any of us! (I think he is besotted in us, imperfect as we are!)

On some of your other points:

It is the LOVE of money that is the route of all evil, not money in itself. Poor or rich, it makes no difference at the end of things.

The New testament continues the story of the Old Testament with the story of Jesus, who fulfills the prophetic books of the Old Testament. ( Although of course the Jews would disagree!) The only difference between the Jewish Old Testament and the Christian Old Testament is in the order of the books and the Christian bible does not have the 400 year period after Nehemiah in it.

Anyway, good idea for a site. Any last requests before they kill you?

Well...where to begin...hmmm...Shinade's thoughts on the topic pretty much echo my own. I was brought up to believe in God and I do. However, when it comes to religion I find it seriously lacking in sooo many areas! I don't attend church, any church on a regular basis(if at all) because I am yet to find one that I believe to be sincere. I too respect all faiths and I believe that God only wants us to love one another and be kind and respectful to our fellow man. I have actually written a post about this subject...that man should not condemn one another for their belief system. As far as I am concerned for the most part it's all according to where you were born and what you were brought up with that plays the greatest factor in what you believe. Anyway, I could go on and on but you get the picture. I know it does sound like a cop out but ultimately you HAVE to choose what you believe to be the right path. I can't convince you that my way is the right way. I think we are all flying by the seat of our pants and hoping that we are doing the right thing! So I go back to my original assessment, love everyone as Jesus loved everyone and you should have a smooth sail into heaven I don't believe God wants any more than that from us.

From my point of view, 'double standards' is directly related to the wrong interpretations that leads to wrong applications not according to the belief (ideology) itself.
